Cabana Bay Room Description Essay

I visited this hotel at the end of January 2015. I did love the decor, Mid-Century Modern is my favorite. But I have to tell you that its just too noisy. I had a room facing the pool and it is so loud that I could not even hear my TV at times. There is music playing outside (loud speakers) till around 11pm. If you have a room facing the parking lot it may not be as bad. But the outside speakers are not the only noise you will hear. The noise from the hall is disturbing also. The walls are paper thin ( you will hear your next door neighbors), and your front door is designed in such a way that it slams automatically. Of a morning the house keepers, going up and down the hall, slam every door they enter. And they go in and out of the rooms all day slamming doors all day. I know this may sound like I'm over complaining, but really I'm not. Other than the noise, this is really a nice place to stay.Being near the parks are a great advantage! The bus's are quick and reliable. Now the food at the hotel is nothing to brag about. Its a food court with several choices, but don't expect much. Everything tastes the same, and I mean everything...and its not cheap, just the flavor. If your wanting a nice meal, go to one...I visited this hotel at the end of January 2015. Now the food at the hotel is nothing to brag about. Its a food court with several choices, but don't expect much. Everything tastes the same, and I mean everything...and its not cheap, just the flavor. If your wanting a nice meal, go to one of their three hotels...Portafino,Hard Rock or Royal Pacific. There you will find a great meal!
Back to Cabana Bay, if your with a group or a bunch of kids, you may like this place. It is not for a romantic getaway, or even for just lounging by the pool and reading a book...too loud to concentrate.
enjoy if you go, just be warned...More

I made my reservation online for this hotel back in February. When i made the booked for two nights, the website informed me that i would be charged a deposit (at value of first night stay) to secure the booking. Sure enough the money came off the credit card for the first night and the balance for the second night was due upon checkin/checkout when i arrive at the hotel.

I arrived at the hotel, Looks fantastic, on the exterior, and also on the interiors. Very practical for families especially young children. Feeling impressed, i approached the checkin counter and given pretty ordinary McDonalds style service. The staff member couldn't care less. It was almost like being a large scale production line. 100's of staff members, 100's of people, crappy customer service (will expand on further down).

So i got my room key, the staff member pointed off in a general direction and told me its "over there".. so off i went with my three bags (no offer for assistance at the door to boys (staff) who were chatting amongst themselves) - but i managed. Arrived at room 5100 on the ground level.

Hotel Pro's:
Spacious room
Comfortable Beds
Comfortable Linen on beds
Excellent TV
Quiet and comfortable/quick air conditioning system
Clean!
Within Reasonable distance to Universal. They offer a shuttle bus for free however pretty much only seats 5-10 people the rest have to stand (good luck with that - oh and don't expect children to have manners - they will lounge around and make adults stand) - better off to do the garden walk back like i did!
The food quality and the shop area is very convenient and the customer service there was fantastic. The food was very nice and suitably priced (thank you).

Room Cons':
Biggest issue is, its on the corner near the food court area, and to "fit the theme" of the hotel, they play old school music from way back (house of the rising sun etc.) - Now i love this kind of music, but its played ALL NIGHT LONG at a volume level that you can pin point and hear the lyrics to every song playing. Meanwhile, next door there is a family with a newborn baby thats screaming its head off all night. Don't get me wrong, its not the hotel's fault there is a new born baby there at all, and i didn't do anything to try and be moved because i knew this would be too much trouble. It was too much trouble to help with my bags and it was too much trouble to give me instructions to my room - so i wasn't looking for further disappointment and i managed as best as i could.
- Second issue is poor customer service. i approached the counter at around 11pm at night to ask if there was a vending machine i could purchase a bottle of water from as i didn't feel very well. Ha ha, what a fool i was to ask such a complex question. Shrug of the shoulders was all i got.. and a "don't know sir, you might just need to check level 2 as i think it might be there". Funnily enough, walking back to my room there was a small stand selling halloween stuff (that late) with nibbles and drinks.. luckily i was able to buy a drink there.
- third issue, when i woke up prior to check out i had an email saying that my room bill is ready for view on the tv and i can do an express checkout if its ok. I checked on the tv the bill and sure enough there i huge amount on there. When i checked in i was told that my credit card has been charged the final nights accommodation to pay the balance. - Totally understood and was ok with this. Turns out these additional charges that i was due to pay was the actual room bill. when i checked the staff member failed to tell me that what she was doing with my credit card was a pre-auth for incidentals ($239.00 AUD) for two nights. - Pretty disgusting when there are no incidentals offered (minibar... otherwise i would not have walked around like an idiot looking for a bottle of water).
So, i was charged $239 deposit which will be refunded if no incidentals found, and then i got charged the actual final night of the similar value. -

Will i ever return to this hotel - never in a million years. This hotel has a lot of work to do, and they need to realise its not all about families...
